Earlier this month I called upon the members of the Anglican Church in North America to pray and support our Christian brothers and sisters in Iraq and Syria. You can read that appeal in more detail here.
As a continuation of that appeal I am calling our churches to include a special time of prayer for the persecuted church during their services this Sunday, August 24th.
Last week, Canon Andrew White, an Anglican known as the Vicar of Baghdad, vested in red in recognition of the martyrs who gave their life for Christ over the last few weeks, some of whom were members of his own congregation. Clergy who are celebrating or officiating this week are welcome to vest in the color red in solidarity with them and in recognition of this testimony to Christ.
Your brother at the foot of the Cross,
The Most Rev. Dr. Foley Beach
Archbishop and Primate
